Position: Physical Design Technologist
Location: Teesside
Salary: Starting salary £40,000 per annum.
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week Monday to Friday, including 1-hour lunch breaks.
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent, On-Site.

Role Overview:
As a Physical Design Technologist, you will play a key role in the design, development, and prototyping of innovative soldier-system products. From concept generation to the production of functional prototypes, you will collaborate with key defence, commercial, and academic research partners to deliver exceptional solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate within the end-to-end design process for defence products, including conceptual design, 3D modelling, and detailed engineering drawings.
Develop and produce high-quality prototypes using advanced manufacturing techniques, including CNC machining, 3D printing, and other fabrication methods.
Collaborate with R&D, testing, and key partners to refine designs and ensure they meet performance and safety standards.
Conduct feasibility studies, material selection, and risk assessments to optimise product designs.
Ensure compliance with relevant defence industry regulations and quality standards.
Document all design and prototyping processes, maintaining a clear and traceable design history.
Stay updated with the latest advancements in design software, prototyping technologies, and materials science to bring innovation to projects.
Key Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or significant relevant experience.
Proven experience in designing and prototyping within a high-tech, regulated industry (defence experience is highly desirable).
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Fusion360, SolidWorks, Creo, or similar) and prototyping tools.
Strong knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes, including additive manufacturing and machining.
Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on innovative, practical solutions.
Strong knowledge of human physiology with a focus on female ergonomics and physical needs.
A good understanding of anthropometric and human-factored design.
Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and communicate complex ideas effectively.
A good understanding of industry standards.
